Updating the WordPress CMS
The WordPress Content Management System is a popular open source website platform, which is easy to manage and extend with third party plugins, and is in use by many of our clients. From time to time, WordPress and any installed plugins have updates made available by the developers, similar to the way Microsoft Windows or smart devices require software updates. It is critical these updates are performed to ensure continued security and functionality of your web site.
Recently, WordPress has released version 5.0, which is a significant step forward and introduces several new features to the platform. While it is important to update to version 5, we have seen a number of problems occur through the use of version 5.0 with outdated plugins, in some cases breaking key functionality in web sites. It may be necessary for some clients to hold back from updating to version 5.0 until updates for all key plugins are available.
If you would prefer not to manage this process yourself, or are having problems updating your site yourself, PerthWeb can help. PerthWeb can bring your web site up to date, and we have managed WordPress update packages available to ensure any future updates are performed on a fortnightly basis to help give you piece of mind. We will perform all updates for you, and should any issues occur with updates we will revert to the previous working version and seek an update to resolve the issue. These update packages also include an automated cloud based backup service.
If you have any questions about keeping your website up to date, or would like to know more about our packages, contact PerthWeb today.
